Zsuzsi and Tamás wanted to have three children by the age of 30. During the first year of their marriage, they lost three fetuses and also suffered a fourth miscarriage. After countless medical tests, physical, emotional and financial hardship, Zsuzsi was diagnosed with bilateral fallopian tube infections, which the gynaecologists who had treated her for years had failed to detect. It was probably the cause of her miscarriages. Her fallopian tubes were severely deformed and had to be removed. In 2021, she was put on a fertility programme at a clinic in Slovakia. After two rounds of implantation and subsequent embryo loss, the couple started the adoption process. They want a child of up to three years old; healthy, or at least with a treatable health condition and without any gender or origin restrictions.
It is estimated that 150,000 couples in Hungary are affected by infertility each year, with 2,500-3,000 patients only able to access appropriate treatment abroad. According to the Hungarian Central Statistical Office, in 2022 there were 1,254 approved adoptions in Hungary.
