Bea Kovács is a Budapest-based Hungarian freelance photographer specializing in documentary and portrait photography. Unlike those who discover photography in childhood, she found her path to the craft later in life. After years in the beauty industry, she decided to pursue photography more seriously. She became an applied photographer and later graduated as a photojournalist. Her human-centered approach to photography is supported by her background in coaching and mediation, which helps her connect deeply with her subjects and tell their stories with sensitivity and authenticity.

She is particularly drawn to long-term projects, where she can explore personal and social narratives in depth. She is interested in social issues affecting women and small communities, believing that these topics deserve greater attention. Through her photography, she aims to shed light on untold stories. She has worked with families raising children with serious illnesses, capturing moments that reflect both their struggles and resilience.

Since 2019, she has been working on a long-term project in Armenia, documenting life in rural areas. Her images highlight the resilience and spirit of the people living there. Through her work, she hopes to foster understanding and appreciation for these communities.

In addition to her personal projects and applied photography work, her images mostly are published in HVG, Hungary’s leading economic and political weekly. Her work has been recognized in the Hungarian Press Photo Competition, where she has received multiple awards, including the prestigious André Kertész Grand Prize for the best documentary work focusing on people. She has been awarded the VII Academy scholarship multiple times, allowing her to study at their Sarajevo and Arles campuses. Her photographs have been exhibited at the Hungarian Press Photo exhibitions, at the Kunsthalle, and New York’s Photoville.
